As the crisp autumn air (well, as crisp as it gets here in Arizona!) begins to settle in, parents across the Valley know exactly what is on the horizon: fall break. While kids are thrilled to have a week or two away from homework and early alarm clocks, parents often end up scrambling. How do you balance your work commitments while keeping your kids entertained, engaged and off their screens?
If you are a parent in the Phoenix or Arcadia area, you might be wondering if an active fall camp is the right choice. Spoiler alert: It just might be the best decision you make this season.
We have all been there. The first day of a school break is full of excitement and sleeping in, but by day three, the dreaded chorus of "I'm bored" echoes through the house. Without the daily structure of school, many children default to excessive screen time, whether it is mindlessly scrolling on tablets, playing video games, or watching TV.
This "school break slump" can lead to lethargy and make the eventual return to the classroom that much harder. Children thrive on routine, physical activity, and social interaction—all of which can take a massive nosedive when they are stuck at home.
Unlike traditional daycare or unstructured babysitting, active fall camps are designed to get kids moving, thinking and interacting. Here is why enrolling your child in a dynamic camp environment is an absolute game-changer:
1. Unplugged Physical Activity
Kids have boundless energy and an active camp channels that energy productively. Programs that incorporate movement, tumbling and sports keep children physically fit while developing their gross motor skills, spatial awareness and coordination.
2. Mental and Social Engagement
Camp is not just about burning off energy; it is about building confidence. Interacting with peers in a structured, offline setting helps children develop vital social skills. They learn teamwork, practice problem-solving and build resilience as they try new activities alongside new friends. This fosters a sense of confidence and belonging, which is essential for their growth.
3. Routine with a Dash of Fun
Active camps provide the daily structure kids are accustomed to during the school year, but they replace the math and reading blocks with trampolines, obstacle courses and creative crafts.
If you are searching for the premier fall break destination in Arizona, look no further than Arizona Sunrays. We understand exactly what kids want and what busy parents need. Our Camp Sunrays program is specifically tailored to provide an action-packed experience for children ages 4 to 11.
Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, each day at Camp Sunrays is a new adventure. Your camper might spend the morning tackling a NinjaZone circuit or perfecting their gymnastics skills, then move on to creative crafts, water games, and special guest demonstrations. Themed weeks like 'Trick-or-Treat Training Camp' and 'Broomsticks & Cauldrons' keep the fall spirit lively and fun, ensuring your child will have a memorable experience.

What are the hours of a typical camp day?
Our Camp Sunrays hours are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please arrive on time so your camper can enjoy all scheduled activities! We also offer Extended Care from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (depending on location) for families who need a little extra coverage.
How old must my camper be to participate in camp?
We ask that all campers be between the ages of 4 and 11. We also require that all campers be fully potty trained and able to use the restroom independently.
What kind of activities will my camper participate in?
Every day is different, but your child can look forward to various gymnastics circuits, dance, NinjaZone training, trampoline time, creative crafts, group games, water play and even special guest demonstrations!
What should my camper bring and wear to camp?
For the best experience, we suggest comfortable clothing that is easy to move in and easy to put on and take off. Please pack a refillable water bottle, a cold packed lunch and two snacks. We also recommend packing a change of clothes for water activities and please apply sunscreen to your camper before arriving each day.
